Ecologie Microbienne Fonctionnelle et Evolutive pour des Ecosystèmes Durables (EMFEED)

Area of expertise:

Ecology of microbial communities in soils in relation to the functioning of agroecosystems and the fate of chemical and biological inputs of agricultural origin.

Research areas:

  • Understanding the role of biodiversity, abiotic and biotic interactions (between plants and microorganisms, but also between microorganisms) in soil ecosystem services.
  • Monitoring and assessing the impact of agroecosystem management strategies on soil microbial communities and associated soil functions, in order to promote ecosystem multifunctionality.
  • Understanding the role of functional microbial communities in regulating the nitrogen cycle, nitrous oxide emissions (a greenhouse gas) and the biodegradation of organic pollutants, including pesticides.
  • Ecological engineering of microbial communities to improve the sustainability of agroecosystems (bioremediation, biocontrol and biostimulation)
  • Assessment of the ecotoxicological impact of contaminants (e.g. micro- and nano-plastics, antibiotics) and chemical and/or biological inputs on soil microbial communities and associated functions
